About the region

Mexico Guzman Feria La Cañada Microlot

This delicious coffee, sourced by our friends at Crop to Cup, is grown in a region of Oaxaca that is mountainous, rugged, and the home of many small family farms. Over 70 percent of coffee grown in Mexico is grown on large estates. The other 30% is produced by some 2 million smallholders like the ones that produced this coffee. The area around Sochiapan, La Cañada is mostly indigenous and Spanish is a second language. This coffee was produced by a group of 40 small farmers brought together by Jaime Guzmán, Erasmo García, and José Contreras who each have over 40 years experience working in the area pushing for selective picking, lot separation and competition-level coffee production. The coffee is pulped, dry fermented for 30 hours, washed and then dried on raised beds. We get notes of sweet baked peach, brown sugar, chocolate and some lime like balanced acidity.
